Folio - client portal

A proper public portal. Secure by design.

Folio is a branded sign-in where your clients, partners and vendors see exactly what you’ve shared with them, in a clean shell with your name on top. No admin surface, no org tree, no full Foldr account to create, and no per-seat licence on every external user.

What Folio gives you

A real portal, not a dressed-up share link.

Folio inherits Foldr’s permission, audit and field model: the same controls your team uses internally apply to every external user. The difference is what they see.

External users, not licensed seats

Add as many partners and clients as you need. They sign in, they see what you shared, they never count against your user total. (Folio itself is a licence; see below.)

Only what you share

They see what you share with them and nothing else: no org tree, no admin screens, just their own Shared-with-me, in your organisation’s branding.

Read, upload and fill in

Folio inherits the full sharing surface: read-only, upload, custom-field collection and deadlines, all per recipient. (Signing is Foldr Sign, which works through the same portal.)

Live files, not attachments

Update the source, the client sees the latest. No version-N+1 emails, no “please disregard the previous attachment”.

Simple sign-in, no seat needed

Outside people you share with by email get a simple sign-in, with no IT setup; anyone who already has an account with you uses that. Or wire them through your IdP if you prefer.

Audit trail per client

Every open, download, upload and field submission per external user, so you can show who did what.

Where Folio fits

A few of the jobs it’s built for.

For consultancies and agencies

Each client sees their own folder, with their statements, deliverables, and any docs they’ve uploaded for review. New deliverable lands the moment you publish it. No quarterly “here’s a zip” emails.

For schools sharing with parents and governors

Governor packs in a Folio they sign into, no print-offs, no emailed PDFs. Parents pick up reports and consent forms with the same login. The school controls what each role sees.

For MSPs onboarding their clients

Bundle the shares, fields, forms and Sign templates a client portal needs into a Flow, then give the customer’s people a Folio sign-in. Each client gets the same product, scoped to their data.

For finance, legal and compliance

Send contracts, NDAs, due-diligence packs. Recipient signs in, downloads, fills in a declaration field. The field is write-protected once submitted, so auditors see who said yes when.

Honest comparison

How Folio compares to other portals.

Egnyte, Box, ShareFile and Citrix all offer external collaboration; usually with per-external-user pricing, a copy of your data inside their cloud, and their UI. Folio runs against the storage you already have, charges the company not the seat, and lets you brand the surface. What you give up: their long-tail integrations and very polished mobile portals. What you keep: your data on your storage and a flat seat count.

What it comes with

Which plan has Folio.

On Foldr Cloud, Folio is included with Enterprise and is an add-on on Business. On a self-hosted appliance, a Business licence has bundled Folio, Sign and Forms since September 2026, so there’s nothing extra to buy. The full list of what’s in today is on the all features page.
